James Reid is back with another single, titled “Mirasol.”
The newly released track demonstrates his undeniable charisma, leaning towards his renowned set of chart-toppers from the past few years. Co-written by Reid and Allison Shore, the song itself is impeccably smooth with its ’90s suave and stellar production — making it a pop earworm that demands multiple listens well beyond the completion of its runtime.
According to the “Randomantic” hitmaker himself, the track revolves around the experience of falling in love with a sunflower, and how romance requires appreciation, protection, and understanding. “Love is an organic process and needs to grow naturally,” he states. With the sunflower serving as a metaphor “for a relationship that gives off an air of sweet summer romance and innocence,” he explains: “I want to connect on a different level with my fans that I haven’t been able to do before. Writing in Tagalog (Filipino) was a very welcomed challenge for me, and I’ve enjoyed it so much.”
Frequent collaborator Tim Marquez from One Click Straight infuses the track with a dreamy soundscape that perfectly complements its romantic essence. The finished product harkens back to Reid’s celebrated Diary Ng Panget days yet with a polished and subtle twist.
“Mirasol” marks the third single from Reid’s forthcoming EP, jgh, set to drop on November 22, 2024. This highly anticipated project promises to explore his softer, more vulnerable side while embracing a pop-driven sound, featuring tracks like “Sandal” and “Hurt Me Too.”
