Honeydrop Return With Surprise New Single, “Pavements” — Listen

Marking their first release in six years, Cebu-based indie rock band Honeydrop returns with the release of surprise new single, “Pavements.”
The song has always been a staple during live performances as early as 2018, but finally, it has an official release. With their recent comeback, the band has also undergone significant changes in its lineup. Along with this, the song has also taken a completely new form.
“The idea was to create a song that gives a nod to the ‘midwest emo’ influence we had at that time,” describes vocalist Debb Acebu. “I think that still lives up to now, but with a much more renewed approach to its arrangement now compared to how it was as a demo a couple of years ago.”
Written by Acebu and guitarist Karl Lucente, with most of the arrangement from original members Jud Sala, Tram Florido, and Jeriel Laraño. The current lineup features Miguel Lim and Jesiree Rosales, who have brought their fresh elements to the song’s final arrangement.
Acebu states that the song’s release is long overdue. “The goal is to just release the track without any expectations whatsoever,” she adds. “Although in hindsight, I would like to think and hope that this track will continue going places, wherever that may be.”
“Pavements,” as described by the band in an official statement, is a song “rooted in grief and pain, written as a form of acceptance and ultimately, a way to move forward.” The title is an allusion to the feeling of walking alone with your thoughts and feeling the uncertainties of what may come, but still choosing to continue.
First making a splash in the local music scene during the Cebuano indie-rock boom of the 2010s, Honeydrop were known for their melancholy love songs perfectly blending with their dynamic and complex rock sound.
In 2013, they released their eight-track debut album, Prelude, followed by the extended play (EP), Signs, in 2017. “Pavement” is their first single since 2019’s “Luna.”
