Hitsujibungaku are back with a brand-new single, entitled “mild days.” Exploring the theme of finding comfort in friends during times of uncertainty, the track was released last May 14, 2025, notable for its laidback, nostalgic instrumentals.
“mild days” serves as the ending theme song for the upcoming Japanese animé Secrets of the Silent Witch, based on the light novel series of the same name, for which the Japanese alternative rock hitmakers have also written the opening theme for. The show is set to premiere sometime in July 2025.
“mild days” is the third ending theme song that Hitsujibungaku have done for an animé series, following “more than words” for Jujutsu Kaisen and “Burning” for Oshi no Ko. Notably, “more than words” became the reason for the band’s major international breakthrough, introducing them to more listeners across the world due to the widespread popularity of Jujutsu Kaisen.
With this, Hitsujibungaku have released an accompanying music video for the song, filmed during their first west coast tour of the United States, which was held last April 2025 across four dates. One of the band’s mainstay session drummers, Yuna (formerly of Japanese experimental pop band Chai) was part of the tour and appears in the video. Notably, she was the one who provided the drums for “mild days,” filling in for the band’s drummer Hiroa Fukuda who has been on an indefinite hiatus since May 2024.

In other news, Hitsujibungaku recently took home the awards for Best Japanese Alternative Song and Best Japanese Alternative Artist at the first-ever MUSIC AWARDS JAPAN. Following their second acceptance speeches, the band discussed their recent overseas tour, which notably included a stop in Manila last July 2024.
“In the Philippines, we experienced massive sing-alongs that you don’t typically see with Japanese audiences, which really surprised us,” stated bassist Yurika Kasai when asked by the hosts what stood out for them the most during this run of shows, something that vocalist and guitarist Moeka Shiotsuka agrees with. “Even though they don’t know Japanese, it’s touching that they still sing along.”
