HYBE, YG, JYP, And SM To Spearhead K-Pop’s Version Of Coachella
South Korea’s biggest entertainment companies are set to bring music fans the biggest festival celebrating K-pop to date.
South Korea’s “Big Four” — HYBE, YG, JYP, and SM — are in the works for FANOMENON, an 11-day festival featuring awards ceremonies, concerts, and exhibitions scheduled to premiere in December of 2027.
A portmanteau of “fan” and “phenomenon,” FANOMENON will differ from other awards ceremonies in that it will reward the fandoms rather than the artists themselves.
Announcement of the festival was made in a press conference held at Seoul’s National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, where JYP Entertainment founder Park Jin-young and Culture Minister Chae Hwi-young spoke. Noticing the global popularity of K-pop and Korean culture in general in October of last year, Park saw the opportunity to create what he described as “a new festival that may surpass the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.”
The project is projected to attract 520,000 attendees, with 200,000 being overseas visitors. An estimate of 1 trillion won (680 million USD or 42 billion PHP) is also expected to be generated. The festival is set to become a fully established global event by May of 2028 in Los Angeles.
The planned festival would include a special event on December 2, 2027, followed by three-day concert runs from December 3 to 5 and again from Dec. 10 to 12 together with four days of awards ceremonies. The festival will take place at the upcoming Seoul Arena, which is currently under construction in Chang-dong, Seoul.
