The Eraserheads are coming back together on the big screen very soon — with their long-awaited documentary set to premiere this March 2025.
The world-renowned Filipino rock band is set to be the subject of the upcoming documentary feature, titled Eraserheads: Combo On The Run, that chronicles the staging of their 2022 Huling El Bimbo reunion concert in Manila — delving deep into the heart and soul of a group that has defined an entire generation of listeners, while showcasing the untold story of the band’s widely publicized (and painful) breakup, alongside the challenges they faced for the preparations of their long-awaited comeback concert.
Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Maria Diane Ventura, Eraserheads: Combo On The Run is scheduled to premiere in Philippine cinemas for one weekend only, screening from March 21 to March 23, 2025. The film is set to offer an insightful look at the relationship between members Ely Buendia, Raymund Marasigan, Marcus Adoro, and Buddy Zabala, as they come together to provide reprieve to an entire nation during a time of political divisions and uncertainties while, perhaps unknowingly, embarking on a journey of healing themselves.
According to Ventura, the film is “much more than a portrayal of a band’s breakup and the proverbial clash of egos,” but an important piece of work that captures the band’s unflinching honesty and untold story behind the curtains. “This is a comprehensive deconstruction of the band’s mythology, humanity, complex relationship, and the lasting mark they left on Filipino culture — one that transcends generations and differences,” the filmmaker mentions.
“Each interview revealed new layers and complexities, which found us constantly reframing to deepen the narrative. This would probably be my first and last documentary. An exception only for the Eraserheads, who I owe my career trajectory to and who, objectively, I think is the greatest Philippine artist, with Ely as the best songwriter of all time. This was my way of thanking them by upholding their legacy,” she concludes.
On January 21, 2025 (Tuesday), the official poster for the documentary film was revealed. It was designed by Jumpcut NYC’s Brandon Schaefer, a multimedia artist who is best known for having worked on a number of hit films. This includes 94th Academy Award for Best International Feature winner Drive My Car, the Sundance and Cannes-winning documentary All That Breathes, as well as Martin Scorsese’s Taxi Driver for its 40th anniversary release.

According to the Eraserheads documentary film’s producer and filmmaker Maria Diane Ventura, “Schaefer came up with multiple design concepts with minimal guidance, allowing him the freedom to explore different visual approaches.” She notes how she “had such a difficult time choosing just one.” said Ventura. “…I wish I could release all of them, especially the more abstract and avant-garde designs which were really quite impressive and evocative.”
In addition to revealing the poster’s design, Ventura also revealed that Eraserheads: Combo On The Run is slated to be “the first Philippine documentary to be screened in Dolby Atmos, a cutting-edge audio technology known for its most immersive sound experience.” In charge of the sound design was award-wiining mixer and engineer Jason Abell whose works include Beyoncé’s Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé as well as Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour.
Eraserheads: Combo On The Run is brought to you by Dvent Pictures and WEU and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, with tickets available for purchase soon.
