Eraserheads frontman Ely Buendia has just dropped his first solo single in four years, titled “Bulaklak Sa Buwan.”
Following his 2021 single “Metro,” the newly-released track embraces a gritty, alt-rock sound that tackles themes of fake news and propaganda-fueled atrocities online, urging its listeners to heighten their awareness and combat misinformation. Describing the song in an official press statement, Buendia says; “I’ve been watching documentaries a lot, and I tried to distill everything in one song. The track is all about the quest for the truth. It’s about seeking knowledge while resisting the confines of dogma.”
Produced by frequent collaborator and Pupil bandmate Jerome Velasco, “Bulaklak Sa Buwan” is also accompanied by a coinciding music video directed by Niko Cezar and Aimee Aznar of KNYA Collective. According to Buendia, the visual narrative features him wandering in the woods searching for a particular flower. “Upon finding it, I get into some upside-down vibes (like Stranger Things), getting transported into another dimension.”
“Bulaklak Sa Buwan” marks the beginning of a new solo era for the Philippine rock icon, serving as the lead single to his forthcoming sophomore album Method Adaptor, which is scheduled for release on November 8, 2024. It follows his 2000 debut album, Wanted Bedspacer, and the sporadic set of singles and collaborations he has done over the past few years.
2024 already marks a busy year for Buendia, given the recent news of the upcoming premiere of the long-awaited Eraserheads documentary, the first-ever vinyl reissue of the Eraserheads’ Cutterpillow album, and the recently concluded tour of the band across North America. With what promises to be a busy latter half of the year for the Philippine rock legend, fans can stay tuned as to what lies ahead for him here.
