Chinese-Filipino American singer-songwriter Eila opens up about love, heartbreak, and self-worth with her new single, “Loving Me Wrong,” released through Symphonic Distribution.
Based in New Jersey, she has carved out a space for herself on social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram. Beyond making her own music, she showcases her vocal prowess through performances, music content, and vocal impressions.
The song follows her previously released single, “Living Proof,” a feel-good anthem that explores the excitement of genuine love. “Loving Me Wrong” offers a contrast to her previous single, delving into the complicated feelings and emotions that surface when a relationship no longer feels right.
“[The song] takes me right back to being young and naively in love, when I was caught in that volatile cycle of constant highs and lows,” Eila shares. “You convince yourself that you’re just one argument away from turning it all around.”
“I hope that anyone who’s been there can listen to the track and feel validated without any judgment,” she adds. “It is completely possible to feel genuine happiness and devastating heartbreak at the exact same time.”
She hopes listeners can resonate with the track as a wake-up call and a reminder not to settle for less and to let go.
Written during a songwriting camp, the song represents growth and evolution in her journey as a singer-songwriter. She described herself as once being too self-conscious to experiment and work with other writers, but over time, the collaborative and creative environment proved to be rewarding.
“Being in that collaborative space was a beautiful reminder that music is ultimately about connection,” she shares.
She last visited the Philippines in 2014, when she performed a cover on the variety show Walang Tulugan with the Master Showman. Years later, the once-young artist who lacked the confidence to perform her own music has grown into an artist with a distinct identity and newfound confidence.
“Looking back, I definitely lacked the confidence to sing my music,” Eila recalls. “12 years and 18 song releases later, I’m back and finally ready to show everyone a much more confident Eila.”
The visit to her home country is a bittersweet homecoming. Her parents grew up in the Philippines before immigrating to the U.S., and her Chinese-Filipino heritage has shaped her relationship with music — particularly through family karaoke sessions and her parents’ support as she pursued her dreams of becoming a performer.
“More than anything, it’s the way music naturally brings our community together,” she says. Tapping into the Philippine market, she is excited to connect with more listeners in her home country. Looking ahead, she plans to cover Filipino songs and honor the artists who have paved the way for greater Asian representation in global music.
