Long-standing gig venue Saguijo Cafe + Bar Events has just announced the lineup for their 20th anniversary show this June 1 (Saturday).

In a post made last night (May 15), the venue shared, “Para sa lahat ng banda, [production], at mga guest na walang sawang sumusuporta samin! (For all the bands, productions, and guests that never failed to support us [over the years]!)” The show boasts of a 15-band lineup, and will start at 4 PM. Tickets will cost P500.

Among the bands performing are veteran rock bands Chicosci, One Click Straight, Autotelic, Flying Ipis, as well as newer acts like FABLES, bird., Party Pace, and more.

Earlier today (May 16), Adrian Zuñiga, who organizes the in-house productions of Saguijo, teased that there may be a second, “part two” of the anniversary show coming soon.

Over the past 20 years, Saguijo has become a home for some of the most notable rock bands in the country, with acts like Sandwich, Teeth, Mayonnaise, UDD, Tanya Markova, Razorback, and more. The venue is located along Guijo Street in San Antonio Village, Makati City.

In an interview with Billboard Philippines, chart-topping Pinoy rock band Dilaw talked about their experiences playing in intimate gig venues like Saguijo versus playing in larger venues like in malls. Bassist Leon Altomonte said, “When we play these smaller shows, the connection is closer to the audience. Because they’re not so loud, it isn’t big movements that catch their attention. I feel like the way we can impart our message and feelings towards the audience is to start by feeling it ourselves, translating it to our instruments, to our voice, and hopefully, it reaches the audience as intended.”

Saguijo also served as the breeding ground for Filipino artists who would then go on to be successful in the future. Renzo Lumanog of Any Name’s Okay shared to Billboard Philippines how Saguijo was one of the first places they started playing together as a band, and how the freedom that came with it led to them wanting to manage themselves independently. “[At the start], our only gigs were bar gigs in Manila. We played a show at Saguijo and there were like five, six people. It was so unpredictable. I like that it’s not one set pattern, that we have to do these certain things, hit these certain goals, be on TV, or sign to a certain label to be successful.”
