After nearly 60 years, Black Sabbath are going ‘Back To The Beginning’ and officially calling it quits with one last show this year.
On February 5, 2025 (Wednesday), the forefathers of heavy metal announced that its original lineup — composed of vocalist Ozzy Osbourne, guitarist Tony Iommi, bassist Geezer Butler, and drummer Bill Ward — is set to reunite for one final show together before officially retiring the band for good. The band initially disbanded last March 7, 2017 after playing what was supposedly their final show on February 4, 2017 at the Genting Arena in their home city of Birmingham, England.
Dubbed ‘Back To The Beginning,’ the upcoming concert will be held this July 5, 2025 (Saturday) at Villa Park in Birmingham, making it, according to the band’s announcement, the first time Osbourne, Iommi, Butler, and Ward will be sharing the stage together in 20 years. The event will be held to “celebrate the true creators of heavy metal” and will also feature a short special set from Osbourne himself — known for his own prolific solo career — “before joining with Black Sabbath for his final bow.”
“It’s my time to go Back to the Beginning… [T]ime for me to give back to the place where I was born,” Osbourne stated in the announcement. “How blessed am I to do it with the help of people whom I love. Birmingham is the true home of metal. Birmingham Forever.”
With musical direction from Rage Against The Machine‘s Tom Morello, the historic concert will also feature sets from a number of fellow iconic metal and rock acts. Namely, this includes, Metallica, Slayer, Pantera, Gojira, Halestorm, Alice In Chains, Lamb of God, Anthrax, and Mastodon. In addition, it will also feature a supergroup of equally notable musicians. Announced so far are Billy Corgan (The Smashing Pumpkins), David Draiman (Disturbed), Duff McKagan and Slash (Guns N’ Roses), Scott Ian and Frank Bello (Anthrax), Fred Durst (Limp Bizkit), Jake E. Lee, Jonathan Davis (Korn), KK Downing, Lzzy Hale (Halestorm), Mike Bordin (Faith No More), Rudy Sarzo, Sammy Hagar, II (Sleep Token), Papa V Perpetua (Ghost), Wolfgang Van Halen, Zakk Wylde (Black Label Society, Ozzy Osbourne), as well as Morello. More additions will be announced soon. Watch this space for updates.
Notably, all profits from the show will be donated to the following charities: Cure Parkinson’s, Birmingham Children’s Hospital, as well as Acorn Children’s Hospice — a children’s hospice supported by Aston Villa.
Tickets to the one-night only show will go on sale this February 14, 2025 (Friday) at 6:00 PM (PHT) via Live Nation UK. Ticket prices have yet to be announced. Watch this space for updates.
