In all its forms, Filipino music has always found a way to be transcendent.

When we think of OPM, we often think of its ability to resonate across ages and take us back in time, all the while moving listeners and inspiring each new generation of Filipino musicians through the years. This very quality was something you could feel when witnessing the Filipino rock icons of Tanaw Collective — composed of Barbie Almalbis, Kitchie Nadal, Acel Bisa, Hannah Romawac-Olives, Lougee Basabas, and Aia de Leon — join forces with six of the most promising acts in OPM today — SUYEN, Zild, syd hartha, Toneejay, Eliza Maturan, and Any Name’s Okay — for a special episode of Billboard Philippines Studios.

And today, Billboard Philippines is taking you behind the scenes to see how it all unfolded.

While the call time for the shoot meant everyone had to arrive on set way before the rest of the world was even awake, the energy in the room was nothing short of electric from the get-go. There was a sense of excitement present that bounced around from all those present, especially the artists.

It was something else to witness how their chemistry with each other built up during the length of the shoot, especially as some of the pairings like Any Name’s Okay and Aia De Leon, as well as syd hartha and Acel Bisa were excitedly meeting each other for the very first time that day.

From there, you could see different scenes of newfound camaraderie unfolding throughout the studio, with everyone present constantly all smiles despite the lengthy schedule of the day. It was a pleasant sight to observe the artists bonding ahead of filming their performances, with each paired up act trading gig stories and inside jokes, taking selfies (and even TikToks) together, and doing flawless last minute rehearsals of the song they were about to reimagine. Indeed, it didn’t feel like a shoot at all but rather just another day at your favorite local venue with your favorite artists.

Beyond the stellar performances that many of us have now been able to watch, it’s in these unseen moments that truly made this episode of Billboard Philippines Studios special. There’s beauty found in seeing how much Filipino music has gracefully evolved over the years and these 12 acts, bound together by their love for the craft, are the perfect examples of this. With the profound connections they made that day, we are all reminded that that, indeed, OPM is and will forever be timeless.
