Global music distribution company Symphonic Distribution is expanding its footprint in Southeast Asia with a newly inked partnership with Underdog Music, one of the Philippines’ fastest rising independent labels.

The newly announced deal marks a significant step as part of Symphonic’s growing presence in Asia, following a series of strategic A&R and client development hires earlier this year, with Guji Lorenzana’s appointment as the Territory Manager, A&R and Client Development for the Asia-Pacific region.

Launched with an artist-first ethos, Underdog has quickly become a major player within the growing OPM scene, championing a new generation of Filipino talent across genres, from a number of chart-topping vocalists to several promising indie and alternative acts. The label’s roster includes Asia’s Phoenix Morissette, who is also the label’s co-founder, alongside indie folk band The Ridleys, alternative pop group Over October, and rising genre-fluid act (e)motion engine.

The newly minted partnership between the two music companies arrives just as Underdog’s core artists reach major career milestones, such as  Morissette’s forthcoming 15th anniversary concert, EMBER, at the Araneta Coliseum later this month, The Ridleys’ acclaimed 2024 album All These and More and sold-out anniversary show, and even Over October’s breakthrough into the mainstream with their Billboard Philippines Hot 100 chart-topper “Ikot” and their numerous sold-out concerts over the past year.

“With artists such as Morissette, and bands like Over October and The Ridleys, the Filipino independent scene is vibrant and resilient,” said Lorenzana in an official press release. “This partnership with Underdog Music Philippines reinforces our commitment to nurturing Filipino artists with global distribution and tailored support.”

Underdog Music’s President and CMO Martti Uy added, “Underdog was founded on the belief that artists should have both the freedom to create and the tools to build sustainable careers.”

“By working with Symphonic, we are embracing breakthrough technology that helps us grow a stronger community of Filipino artists, one that is equipped not just to succeed locally but to thrive globally,” he concludes.

The signing further cements Symphonic’s role as a key player in supporting the independent sector in Asia, while also giving Underdog Music a powerful platform to scale its artist development model well beyond local borders.
