Mira Chatt Joins The IFPI As Regional Director For Asia

The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) has just tapped Mira Chatt as its new Regional Director for Asia, in a strategic move for the global recording industry as it sharpens its focus on one of the most dynamic music markets in the world.

Chatt steps into an expanded role where she’ll spearhead IFPI’s operations across the broader Asia-Pacific region, overseeing national group activity and backing member labels as they continue to scale investment and growth throughout the territory from IFPI’s Asia regional headquarters in Singapore. Additionally, she will also work in close alignment with IFPI’s Greater China office, which remains under the leadership of Regional Director Guo Biao.

Chatt’s appointment comes at a time when Asia is increasingly viewed as the epicenter of global streaming growth and digital innovation — making her a welcome fit for such a role, considering how she’s no stranger to navigating complex, fast-moving markets. Previously, Chatt had worked at YouTube, where she served as Head of Government Affairs and Public Policy for India. Prior to that, she also spent years in Canada’s Foreign Service, holding senior diplomatic posts across South and Southeast Asia and representing Canada on the international stage.

“The recorded music industry is at a pivotal moment, with Asia at the forefront of digital consumption and innovation. I’ve long had a strong conviction in and commitment to the region, and I am incredibly excited to work hand in hand with our members and local governments to build a sustainable and vibrant future for Asia’s creative economy,” mentioned Chatt in an official press statement. “My focus will be on leading our advocacy efforts to ensure that artists and record labels can continue to thrive in this rapidly evolving market, particularly as we navigate the opportunities and challenges to the music industry presented by emerging technologies like AI,” she continued.

IFPI’s very own CEO Victoria Oakley praised Chatt’s appointment, calling Asia a high-priority growth region for the global business. “We are delighted to welcome Mira to IFPI. With over 20 years of experience in diplomacy, public policy, and strategic partnerships, Chatt brings the much-needed deep regional insight and a track record of building bridges between government and industry.
