Billboard expands its worldwide footprint with the official unveiling of Billboard Africa — a new and major development that positions the continent’s creative sector at the center of global cultural and economic conversation. As African music continues to shape worldwide trends, the launch establishes a dedicated platform to document, analyze, and elevate the region’s rapidly expanding creative ecosystem.

Hosted by the Peermont Group, the launch signaled a watershed moment for African cultural representation. Peermont Group CMO Rorisang Setlogelo highlighted the significance of the milestone, noting that Africa’s creative impact is increasingly undeniable. With Billboard Africa’s arrival, he said, the continent now gains a critical platform to showcase its artists, innovators, and industry leaders to the world.

Central to the event was the debut of African Power Players Vol. 1, Billboard Africa’s new awards franchise to celebrate key contributors to Africa’s global cultural footprint. Among the top honourees were two standout creative forces: Ghanaian-American artist Moliy, who received the Hitmaker of the Year Award for her growing global impact, and Grammy-winning South African DJ and producer Black Coffee, named African Power Player of the Year. The event also revealed Black Coffee as Billboard Africa’s first magazine cover star.

In his exclusive interview with the newly launched publication, Black Coffee spoke about the responsibility that accompanies such recognition, noting that positions of influence demand meaningful change. Moliy, also reflecting on her own award, described being a “Power Player” as embodying confidence, grace, and resilience — qualities that fuel creative success.

Billboard Africa‘s launch event carried the theme ‘Rooted in Rhythm,’ brought to life through a series of exceptional performances that showcased the depth of the continent’s musical talent. Guests were treated to a special set by Grammy-winning flautist Wouter Kellerman, a soulful performance from GL CeeJay, and dynamic DJ sets from Teddy Tumi, Don Design, and Sam Deep, underscoring the diversity and global resonance of African sound today.

Beyond the celebration, the launch of Billboard Africa represents a structural investment in the continent’s creative future. Supported by partners Arena Holdings and NYACC, the platform aims to bridge African talent and global markets through trusted data, industry-focused journalism, and culturally rooted storytelling.
