South African pop star Tyla is slowly becoming a household name with the smashing success of her hit single “Water“, but what happens next when the Philippines’ own Princess of Pop, Sarah Geronimo, performs her own rendition of the viral track?
Well, it was certainly impressive enough to get the attention of Tyla herself.
From yesterday’s (December 17) program of the popular Sunday variety show ASAP, Sarah Geronimo performed “Water” as part of the Sarah G Specials segment, fully dressed up in a stunning lavender outfit that mirrored similarly to what Tyla herself wore in the music video. With the video of Geronimo’s performance gaining popularity on the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter), it managed to pop up on Tyla’s radar –– leading the hitmaker to share her own reaction to the video.
“It’s crazy seeing people perform my song with huge productions, costumes, choreo, etc etc…”, shared Tyla in a tweet to her 115.7 thousand followers on the platform. Showcasing her amusement at Geronimo’s performance, she closed her thoughts off by stating “…what the heck”, followed by a woozy-faced emoji and a white heart.
To witness such an interaction between one of pop’s rising acts and the Philippines’ very own star performer in the pop scene definitely delighted fans online. Some have even suggested that the two hitmakers could collaborate on a joint project in the future, which of course –– would be an absolute dream for many of us looking to see them share the stage.
Just earlier this month, Tyla announced the upcoming release of her debut eponymous record, which is set to be released on March 1, 2024. With “Water” being the first single off the record, also included are other promotional singles which include “Truth or Dare“, “Butterflies“, “On and On“, and a remix to “Water” featuring Travis Scott. Also last week, Geronimo performed an impressive cover of Paloma Faith’s “Only Love Can Hurt Like This”, which was screened to audiences in last Sunday’s ASAP noontime program.
