Tanghalang Pilipino To Stage The First Ever P-pop Musical ‘Gregoria Lakambini’
It will feature original music written by singer-songwriters Nica del Rosario (“Rosas,” Sarah Geronimo’s “Tala,” BINI’s “Karera”) and Matthew Chang (musical director for Dekada ‘70 and Ateneo blueREP’s Legally Blonde: The Musical).

Tanghalang Pilipino is staging a brand new musical based on the story of Philippine revolutionary figure Gregoria de Jesus, entitled Gregoria Lakambini: A Pinay Pop Musical.
The news was announced by the Cultural Center of the Philippines’ (CCP) drama company on July 16, 2025 (Wednesday), revealing that the musical will be part of its 39th season ‘IGNITE.’ Written by Nicanor Tiongson and Eljay Castro Deldoc, it will debut and be staged in between reruns of two of Tanghalang Pilipino’s previous historical productions Pingkian: Isang Musikal and Mabining Mandirigma: A Steampunk Musical, which are based on the stories of de Jesus’ fellow Filipino revolutionary figures Emilio Jacinto and Apolinario Mabini respectively.
Starring veteran theater actor Marynor Madamesila as Gregoria de Jesus, Gregoria Lakambini is set to be the first ever P-pop musical, with original music written by singer-songwriters Nica del Rosario (“Rosas,” Sarah Geronimo‘s “Tala,” BINI‘s “Karera“) and Matthew Chang (musical director for Dekada ‘70 and Ateneo blueREP’s Legally Blonde: The Musical), with arrangements by FlipMusic. Joining Madamesila in bringing the P-pop-driven play to life is an ensemble cast, featuring Sarah Monay, Heart Puyong, Anya Evangelista, Ynna Rafa, Sofia Sacaguing, and Murline Uddin.

Directed and co-choreographed by Delphine Buencamino, Gregoria Lakambini: A Pinay Pop Musical is set to be staged from November 14 to December 14, 2025 (Fridays to Sundays) at the CCP Complex’s Tanghalang Ignacio Gimenez in Pasay City. It will follow the re-staging of Pingkian: Isang Musikal from September 12 to October 12, 2025 (Fridays to Sundays) and will precede the re-run of Mabining Mandirigma: A Steampunk Musical from March 6 to 29, 2026 (Fridays to Sundays). The two other musicals will also be held at the Tanghalang Ignacio Gimenez.
A limited season pass ticket bundle to watch all three musicals of Tanghalang Pilipino’s 39th season is available at PHP 5,500 each via here.
