Bringing yet another marriage of music and film into one experience, Film Concerts PH is staging a live concert experience of George Lucas’s Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back.
The live symphonic concert experience is set to feature John Williams’ iconic GRAMMY-winning score performed live by the Filharmonika Orchestra, helmed by famed conductor Gerard Salonga. It will be presented with two special screenings scheduled for August 30 and 31, 2025 (August 30: 6 PM, August 31: 2 PM), at The Theatre at Solaire in Parañaque City.
Film Concerts PH’s staging of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back In Concert follows less than a year after their sold-out run of Star Wars: A New Hope In Concert, which was held last September 2024 in the same venue. During the event itself, several fans and attendees came dressed as their favorite Star Wars characters, decked out in cosplay that closely resembled the uniforms of the Empire’s Stormtroopers, Darth Vader himself, and even a guest appearance from real-life droids like R2D2.
The announcement of the upcoming concert experience comes just a few days after the annual Star Wars holiday (May 4), and celebrates the rich legacy of the beloved sci-fi franchise’s impact on global pop culture — including its mythic storytelling, captivating characters, groundbreaking special effects, and the iconic musical scores composed by John Williams himself.
Williams, who has been awarded with several Academy Awards and Grammys throughout his decades-long career, contributed seventeen score cues in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, which include the iconic “Imperial March,” “Yoda’s Theme,” and the love theme between the characters Han Solo and Princess Leia.
Since the film’s original release back in 1980, it has received acclaim from both critics and fans alike, with many touting it as the best entry in the entire Star Wars franchise. And with Film Concerts PH’s upcoming live concert of the film, avid fans and those interested in it can relive the magic of the film, supplemented by live orchestral music.
However, both Film Concerts PH and conductor Gerard Salonga still find themselves busy with the upcoming staging of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban In Concert, which is set to take place this June 7 and 8, 2025. The film also features an original score composed by John Williams once more, and will be performed by the Filharmonika Orchestra at the same venue next month.
Tickets for the live orchestral concert of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back will first be made available to members of the Film Concerts PH community who have pre-sale access, beginning May 16, 2025 at 10 AM, with access available here. Public access for tickets to the show will then open this June 10, 2025 at 12 PM via TicketWorld.
