Sabrina Carpenter is bringing her talents back to the big screen, this time starring in and producing a new Alice in Wonderland musical for Universal Pictures.
The project, directed and written by Lorene Scafaria (Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist), marks Carpenter’s first producing role on a major motion picture. She is joined by fellow producer Marc Platt of Marc Platt Productions, which is set to release Universal’s highly anticipated Wicked: For Good. Plot details remain under wraps, and no additional cast members have been announced as of this writing.
Lewis Carroll’s 1865 novel Alice in Wonderland and its sequel, Through the Looking-Glass, have always been in the public domain, but the story has become closely associated with Disney, thanks to the 1951 animated classic and the live-action adaptations starring Mia Wasikowska in 2010’s Alice in Wonderland and 2016’s Alice Through the Looking Glass.
This announcement comes on the heels of Carpenter’s six Grammy nominations for Man’s Best Friend, including Album of the Year, Record of the Year, and Song of the Year.
Carpenter has never been camera-shy. She rose to prominence with her role in Disney’s Girl Meets World and as the voice of Princess Vivian in Sofia the First. She also starred in Netflix’s Tall Girl and Tall Girl 2, Work It, and The Hate U Give.
She is set to conclude her box-office hit ‘Short ‘n Sweet Tour’ with six nights at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles from November 16 to 23.
