You can’t get rid of Fleabag just yet!
Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s critically acclaimed one-woman show, Fleabag, is set to make its return to the big screen for a one-night-only showing this February 27, 2024, 9 PM at Ayala Malls Greenbelt.
The beloved stage play was previously screened at Greenbelt’s cinemas last October 31, 2023 as part of a special initiative between The Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP), Ayala Malls Cinemas, and National Theatre Live, which aims to expose international audiences to the magic of British theater. Other stage productions that were screened include Life of Pi, Much Ado About Nothing, The Seagull, The Crucible, Othello, King Lear, Frankenstein, and Hamlet.
Though some are more familiar with the BBC & Amazon Prime series adaptation of the show, Fleabag originally began as a one-woman show that debuted in 2013 at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and was eventually adapted into a two-season scripted program that went on from 2016 until 2019. The National Theatre Live performance of the play was then brought back to London’s West End and was captured live on stage last 2019.
Making its return to theatres alongside Fleabag are Frankenstein, King Lear, Hamlet, and Othello –– all of which are scheduled to be screened within the next few months. Both adaptations of Frankenstein and Hamlet star Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock, Doctor Strange, The Power of the Dog) in the titular roles, while Sir Ian McKellen (X-Men, The Lord of the Rings) will be portraying King Lear in the play of the same name.
