Avengers star Chris Hemsworth has enlisted the help of Australian metalcore giants Parkway Drive in order to learn a new skill: drumming. The task comes as a challenge for the actor’s health and wellness docuseries Limitless.

In the National Geographic show, viewers follow Hemsworth on an “epic mission to discover how to live better for longer.” With this, he takes on “a series of immense challenges to push himself to new limits and stop the diseases of old age before they take hold” with the aid of “world-class experts, family, and friends.”

In the series’ second season, dubbed Limitless: Live Better Now, Hemsworth “takes on three epic challenges to explore science-backed ways” aimed at improving one’s health. The first of these challenges is strengthening his mind’s health in order to combat mental decline. In order to do so, Hemsworth is recommended by an expert to learn a new musical instrument.

With the guidance of his friend, pop hitmaker Ed Sheeran, Hemsworth eventually decides on learning the drums. On top of this, Sheeran challenges Hemsworth further by tasking the actor with learning the instrument in two months time in order to play a song together during one of the “Shape Of You” singer-songwriter’s stadium shows.

To achieve this, Hemsworth enlists the help of another good friend: fellow Byron Bay local Ben Gordon — the drummer of Parkway Drive. Despite initial beginner hurdles and time constraints, Gordon patiently guides Hemsworth through the basics and fundamentals of the drums, even getting the actor to jam with his Parkway Drive bandmates a few weeks before Sheeran’s stadium show. Eventually, Hemsworth pushes through and the performance with Sheeran is a success, with the duo performing to an audience of 70,000 fans.
