Awards season is upon us. The 2026 Golden Globe Awards nominations feature another exciting lineup of films and shows earning recognition, including those competing for the Best Original Song – Motion Picture category.
Leading the charge is one of the most-streamed and popular songs of 2025, “Golden,” from the hit Netflix animated film KPop Demon Hunters. The track peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Philippines Hot 100, and was performed in the film by Ejae, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami as HUNTR/X’s Rumi, Mira, and Zoey, respectively. Released on July 4, 2025, the song serves as the second single from the film’s soundtrack album.
The film also earned nominations for the Best Motion Picture – Animated category, which includes Zootopia 2 and Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Infinity Castle. It also joins the Cinematic and Box Office Achievement category for its global popularity and for breaking streaming records on Netflix. Despite initially being released on streaming, it has earned USD 24 million throughout its limited theatrical runs thus far. The category also includes the films Sinners, F1, and Wicked: For Good.
Speaking of Wicked: For Good, two songs from the film earned nominations for Best Original Song — “No Place Like Home” and “The Girl in the Bubble.” These are two new original songs written by Wicked composer Stephen Schwartz for the second part of Universal’s two-part blockbuster saga. “No Place Like Home” was performed by Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, with the title referencing the iconic “There’s no place like home” line from 1939’s The Wizard of Oz. Meanwhile, “The Girl in the Bubble” was performed by Ariana Grande as Glinda.
Meanwhile, the highly anticipated blockbuster sequel and the third installment of the Avatar franchise, Avatar: Fire and Ash, also made its way into this category with the song “Dream As One,” performed by Miley Cyrus. It was released on November 14, 2025, and was written by Cyrus, Andrew Wyatt, and Mark Ronson, who composed the song together with Simon Franglen, the film’s score composer.
Additionally, the sleeper box-office hit and one of the year’s most celebrated films, Sinners, earned seven award nominations, including for the song “I Lied to You,” performed by actor-musician Miles Caton, who played Samuel “Sammie” Moore in the film.
Rounding out the nominees in the category is Train Dreams, a drama starring Joel Edgerton and Felicity Jones. Its original, eponymous theme song was performed by Bryce Dessner of The National and renowned Australian musician Nick Cave.
The 2026 Golden Globe Awards will stream on Monday, January 12, 2026 (PH Time).
