Keanu Reeves is set to play the villain in an upcoming film project centering on the rock band Weezer, which was revealed during the band’s Coachella weekend one set.

Reeves will join stars Juliette Lewis (Natural Born Killers), Eric Andre (The Eric Andre Show), Johnny Knoxville (Jackass), and Ben Schwartz (Sonic the Hedgehog), along with the members of Weezer themselves. Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman (Catfish, Nerve) are co-directing the film, with David Leitch (Deadpool 2, Bullet Train) producing.

The details about the plot are currently unknown; however, it is said to be a mockumentary-style film, drawing comparisons to music-centric films like Weird: The Al Yankovic Story and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.

The connection between the John Wick star and the band goes all the way back to 1992, when Weezer opened for Reeves’ band Dogstar in what became their very first gig.

After disbanding in 2002, Reeves reunited with the band in 2020, for the first time in over two decades. In 2023, they released their third studio album, Somewhere Between the Power Lines and Palm Trees. This marked Reeves’ return to the music scene following his career resurgence through the John Wick films.
