Karylle is officially heading to the chocolate factory.

The Filipino theater powerhouse and multi-awarded performer is set to play Mrs. Bucket in the highly anticipated Manila premiere of Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Karylle joins the Bucket family this July at The Theatre at Solaire in Parañaque City, starring alongside Oliver T. Wong and Cohen Toukatly (alternating as Charlie), Steve McCoy as Grandpa Joe, Mychal Phillips as Grandma Josephine, and Michael Dalke as Grandpa George.

Following successful runs on the West End and Broadway, and with Karylle leading the local cast, this golden ticket is expected to be one of the season’s hottest grabs.

Based on Roald Dahl’s globally beloved novel, the musical follows young Charlie Bucket’s golden-ticket journey into the mysterious world of Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory. From chocolate rivers to nut-sorting squirrels and mischievous Oompa-Loompas, the show serves up eye-popping visuals, immersive staging, and toe-tapping numbers.

It features songs from the 1971 film, including “Pure Imagination,” “The Candy Man,” and “I’ve Got a Golden Ticket,” alongside original music by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman.

A mainstay of the Philippine stage, Karylle brings an extensive list of theatrical credits to the production.

The Aliw Award winner previously portrayed Baroness Elsa von Schraeder in the 2023 international tour of The Sound of Music, along with leading roles in West Side Story, The Little Mermaid, and the neo-ethnic musical Rama Hari. Whether as a classic heroine or a resilient matriarch, she has long proven her range as a performer.

Following a sold-out run in Shanghai, the production by Broadway International Group and Broadway Asia features advanced “hologauze” 3D technology and stage illusions by Las Vegas-based designer Tim Clothier. Producers Simone Genatt and Marc Routh have described the show as a “dazzling fantasy.”

Presented in association with AMA Group of Companies, GMG Productions, and Auro Chocolate, the musical will run in Manila from July 8 to 26, 2026, for a limited engagement.
