We’re getting Juan Karlos on the big screen again.
In Ex Ex Lovers, the OPM hitmaker plays Joey, the boyfriend of Jolina Magdangal and Marvin Agustin’s daughter in the long-awaited comeback of the beloved ’90s MarJo loveteam, now showing in Philippine cinemas nationwide.
Directed by JP Habac (I’m Drunk, I Love You, Gaya Sa Pelikula), the romantic-comedy follows Joy (Magdangal) dealing with a failed relationship with her ex-husband Ced (Marvin Agustin). When their daughter, SC (Loisa Andalio), receives a proposal from Joey, Joy travels to Valletta, Malta to persuade Ced to come home and change their daughter’s mind about the wedding. Cupid seems to have other plans when Joy and Ced’s reunion turns into a rekindled romance and perhaps a second chance at love.
The singer-actor had a special participation in the Netflix tearjerker, Lolo and the Kid, as the adult version of Kid, played by Euwenn Mikaell (Firefly). He also sang a cover of “Through The Years” by American country music artist Kenny Rogers, as part of the film’s official movie soundtrack.
He also had a leading role in the 2023 Cinemalaya independent coming-of-age drama, When This All Over, in which the seven-piece boy band KINDRED composed the music and took home the Best Original Musical Score award.
