John Lennon‘s final decade will be highlighted in a new documentary, Borrowed Time: Lennon’s Last Decade, which is set to premiere at the Cine International Film Festival (CIFF) in London from May 7 to 10.

Directed by Alan G. Parker (It Was Fifty Years Ago Today… Sgt Pepper and Beyond), the poignant documentary brings to life some of Lennon’s iconic moments through archival footage and never-before-seen interviews from musicians, journalists, and close friends. Additionally, for the first time ever, it will tell the story of how Lennon and Yoko Ono first met, as well as the 1981 Beatles comeback that almost happened.

Compared to other documentaries about the icon from the past, Borrowed Time offers a fresh look at a musician who redefined what being a public figure means. Most notably, the post-Beatles breakup period saw the “Imagine” singer evolving into a solo artist and a pivotal voice of social justice and important historical events like the Vietnam War.

The documentary is one of many related film projects featuring Lennon. One To One: John & Yoko is a documentary that explores the couple’s life in New York City from 1971 to 1973. Meanwhile, the Sam Mendes-directed biopic that centers on Lennon will feature Harris Dickinson (The Iron Claw) playing the role.
