The world of K-pop is once again coming to the big screen.
HYBE America, together with Paramount Pictures, has finally announced K-Pop Superstar: The Movie, confirming Ji-young Yoo — who voiced Zoey in KPop Demon Hunters — and featuring an appearance by HYBE’s global girl group KATSEYE.
Revealed at CinemaCon in Los Angeles, it will be directed by Benson Lee (Seoul Searching). The film follows a young Korean-American woman who competes in a televised competition in search of the next K-pop girl group, against her family’s wishes.
Notably, it is expected to be one of the first major films from an American studio to be shot entirely in South Korea. The cast features an all-star ensemble, including Eric Nam, Yoo Ji-tae, Sung Jun, Kang Sora, Hyungchol Lee, Tony Revolori, Gia Kim, Ahin Lee, Renata Vaca, Silia Kapsis, Aliyah Turner, Shana Kim, and Jubi Park.
KATSEYE will be making a cameo appearance, which further highlights the group’s expanding reach. This April, they made their Coachella 2026 debut without Manon Bannerman, who is currently on hiatus. They also brought HUNTR/X’s EJAE, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami for a performance of the Academy Award-winning song “Golden.”
The project was long stuck in development hell and has been in the works since 2020; it was originally set up at 20th Century Studios.
The film is set for a North American release in February 2027. An official Philippine release date has yet to be announced.
