Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson star as members of the Neil Diamond tribute band Lightning & Thunder in the upcoming musical drama Song Sung Blue.
Based on a true story, the film follows Milwaukee couple Mike (Jackman) and Claire Sardina (Hudson), musicians who struggle to find their footing before eventually rising to local fame as Lightning & Thunder.
On Instagram, Jackman shared the trailer with the caption, “This is a love story. This is a film about second chances, family, hardship, great love, and chasing your dreams. This film is a Christmas gift (with popcorn).”
The film is adapted from the Greg Kohs-directed 2008 documentary of the same name and takes its title from Diamond’s 1972 song. It also stars Michael Imperioli (The Sopranos), Fisher Stevens (Succession), Jim Belushi (Saturday Night Live), Ella Anderson (Henry Danger), and singer-songwriter and “1950” singer King Princess, among others.
Hudson won the Best Supporting Actress award for her performance as Penny Lane in Almost Famous. In 2024, she released her debut studio album, Glorious.
Meanwhile, Jackson has played Jean Valjean in Les Misérables and P.T. Barnum in The Greatest Showman. Beyond film, he has also taken the stage in productions such as Oklahoma!, Sunset Boulevard, and The Boy from Oz. He is currently on tour, performing at Radio City Music Hall for Live From New York With Love.
Diamond is considered one of the best-selling musicians of all time, having sold over 130 million records. He is celebrated for his timeless hits such as “Sweet Caroline,” “Cracklin’ Rosie,” and “Song Sung Blue.”

The film is scheduled for release on December 25. However, because of the annual Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF), which traditionally features Filipino films during the holiday season, the film will likely receive a local release early next year.
