Green Day have made a movie inspired by their tour van years! The coming-of-age road trip comedy film New Years Rev will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in a sold-out screening on September 12.
Written and directed by the rock trio’s good friend Lee Kirk, and produced by Live Nation Productions, the film follows a garage rock trio of friends known as the Analog Dogs. They score a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to hit the road in a van across America and race to make it to open for Green Day on New Year’s Eve. Little do they know, the whole thing is a prank.
On Instagram, the band shared the excitement about the news, “It’s packed with all of your favorite Green Day songs, loaded with mischief, and lots of familiar faces (Mckenna Grace, Fred Armisen, Jenna Fischer, Angela Kinsey, Bobby Lee & more).” They also stated that the film is their love letter to their favorite road trip movies, ’90s nostalgia, and chasing something no matter how crazy or ridiculous it can get.
The film is led by Mason Thames (How to Train Your Dragon, The Black Phone), Kylr Coffman (GLOW), and Ryan Foust (The Goldfinch), who make up the Analog Dogs. Additionally, the soundtrack will also feature over a dozen Green Day songs.
The trio is currently on the road for ‘The Saviors Tour,’ in support of their most recent album Saviors. The tour also celebrates the 30th and 20th anniversaries of their classic albums Dookie and American Idiot, respectively.
