The Eraserheads have premiered the trailer for their upcoming documentary feature.
On July 26, the trailer for Eraserheads: Combo on the Run had its world premiere at the San Diego Comic-Con, which happened from July 25-28 at the San Diego Convention Center in California. Written and directed by Maria Diane Ventura, the documentary will serve as the filmmaker’s first feature since the acclaimed Deine Farbe, which won Best German Feature at the Berlin Festival and Best Director at the international Film Festival Manhattan.
Production of the documentary first began during the preparations for the band’s 2022 Huling El Bimbo reunion concert in Manila, which is described as a “monumental gathering that provided reprieve to a nation still reeling from the effects of a divisive political year,” with the documentary set to showcase how “an ‘unlikely group of disbanded punks’ was able to provide healing while, ironically, grappling for it themselves.”
Alongside the premiere of the documentary’s trailer at the convention, the band members — who had just concluded the North American leg of their 2024 Huling El Bimbo world tour — were featured in a San Diego Comic-Con-exclusive issue of The Legendary Lumpia Squad, a hit Filipino-American indie comic. Frontman Ely Buendia also took part in a special panel for the comic, scheduled last July 26, 7 PM to 8 PM, at Room 6 BCF of the San Diego Convention Center. Buendia was joined by the comic’s creator Patricio Ginesla and artist Whilce Portacio. Following this, Buendia also took part in an exclusive autograph signing that happened the next day, July 27.
Eraserheads: Combo on the Run is presented by Dvent Pictures and WEU, and produced by Ely Buendia and Voyage Studios. The trailer was released online on July 29 via the Eraserheads‘ as well as Dvent Pictures‘ official YouTube channels.
