American film distribution company Abramorama has acquired the North American screening rights of the critically acclaimed documentary, Eraserheads: Combo On The Run.

The documentary, directed by Maria Diane Ventura, joins the likes of Abramorama’s catalogue of prestige music films, such as Ron Howard’s The Beatles: Eight Days, Edgar Wright’s The Sparks Brothers, and Grant Gee’s Meeting People Is Easy, centered on Radiohead. In celebration of the acquisition, there will be an official event at SXSW 2026 in March that will take place in honor of the film’s upcoming U.S. and Canada theatrical rollout.

Ventura’s documentary centers on the rise, breakup and resurgence of the Eraserheads, following their beginnings at UP Diliman to becoming the defining voice of a generation — capturing the group’s meteoric ascent, painful fracture, and eventual return.

“I’m incredibly excited about this partnership with Abramorama,” said Ventura in an official press release. “They are the perfect home for this film, not just because of their legacy in music documentaries, but because they understand stories that resonate on a deeper cultural level. While the film is rooted in the Eraserheads’ music, it ultimately speaks to division, reconciliation, and healing during a turbulent political moment. Those themes feel especially relevant today, not only for Filipinos, but for audiences everywhere.”

“It’s also deeply important to me that this film helps reintroduce the band and their music to a new generation, and that it creates space for Filipino stories, nuance, and complexity to be seen with greater depth. Filipinos are part of so many communities around the world, and I hope this film allows people to see us more fully, while also reminding audiences more broadly how powerful it is to feel seen in culture. Ultimately, this film is about how stories and music can bring us closer to one another, even across divides and differences,” she continued.

The film has already achieved historic firsts, becoming the first Filipino music documentary to receive the widest theatrical release in the Philippines through Warner Bros. and the first Filipino film to screen at San Diego Comic-Con. Even on the international festival circuit, it was awarded Best International Documentary at the Ierapetra International Feature Documentary Festival and screened at the Hawaii International Film Festival, among others — further cementing its global momentum.

In an exclusive digital cover story last April, Ventura opened up to Billboard Philippines regarding the challenges of bringing the band back together for the documentary film. “Getting them together for the first time was one of the hardest things that had to be done for the documentary to happen,” she mentioned. “While this may seem obvious, there were many layers to it besides just getting all four to agree to play together. That first interview that we had with them was the first time they saw each other in years,” she added.
