Ben&Ben and SB19‘s “Kapangyarihan” is set to be part of an upcoming telenovela.

On July 9, GMA Network released a promotional video showcasing their upcoming historical drama series entitled Pulang Araw. Alongside showcasing the show’s synopsis and its key characters, the series’ 11-minute primer also featured Ben&Ben and SB19’s “Kapangyarihan” — a joint track released in 2021 as part of the folk-pop band’s sophomore album Pebble House, Vol. 1: Kuwaderno. As the song is about courageously calling out and holding those in power accountable for their actions, the usage of “Kapangyarihan” in the promotional video signals its potential inclusion in the show’s soundtrack.

Pulang Araw details the story of four childhood friends — portrayed by Barbie Forteza, Sanya Lopez, David Licauco, and Alden Richards — as they navigate the onset of World War II and the Japanese occupation of the Philippines. It is directed by Dominic Zapata with a story written by Suzette Doctolero — the writer best known for the successful 2005 fantasy series Encantadia and its reboot of the same name in 2016.

The show also features Dennis Trillo in the role of a supposed main antagonist and with Julie Anne San Jose in a guest role as Katy de la Cruz — the so-called “Queen of Bodabil” of the Philippines. Forteza, Trillo, San Jose, and Licauco, previously worked together in Maria Clara at Ibarra — the hit series co-created by Doctolero, which takes inspiration from the Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo books written by Jose Rizal.

Pulang Araw is set to premiere online via Netflix this July 26, while it will be available to watch on television starting July 29 via GMA Prime.
