Disney has finally found their live-action versions of beloved characters, Rapunzel and Flynn Rider, marking a massive development in the process of bringing the live-action Tangled film to life.
The news was officially announced following a lengthy (and extensive) casting process, with two rising stars, Teagan Croft and Milo Manheim, beating the likes of millions of talents who auditioned for the film. Croft, who took on the role of the mystic superhero Raven in DC’s Titans TV series, is set to bring the curious wonder of Rapunzel to life, while Manheim (who found fame with Disney’s Zombies series and the revival of Little Shop of Horrors on Broadway) will be taking on the role of the dashing outlaw, Flynn Rider.
Aside from the two young actors, it was also announced that comedian-actress Kathryn Hahn is currently in talks to star as the villainous Mother Gothel, stepping up into the role following Scarlett Johansson’s departure from the project late last year.
At the helm of the forthcoming live-action film is Michael Gracey, who directed the Robbie Williams biopic, A Better Man, and the well-beloved musical film, The Greatest Showman. Kristin Burr is set to produce the film, following the success of her partnership with Disney with blockbuster films such as last year’s Freakier Friday and the live-action reimagination of Cruella in 2021, while Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (Do Revenge, Thor: Love and Thunder) will be penning the script for this retelling of the animated film.
The original Tangled film was released in 2010 and reimagined the classic story of Rapunzel in a new light. The beloved animated feature starred Mandy Moore, Zachary Levi, and Donna Murphy, and went on to gross over $591 million worldwide, eventually spawning its own Disney Channel original series.
Though no further details regarding a release date or its production schedule have been revealed to the public, this marks the latest entry in Disney’s series of live-action remakes, following just a year after the Snow White remake that starred Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot, as well as one of the biggest box-office surprises of last year with Lilo and Stitch.
