Rising Canadian singer-songwriter Chloe Stroll opens up about dealing with grief and healing in her single, “You’re OK.”
“[The song] was a big healing song for me. I wrote it about my grandmother. She and I were very, very close, and the only thing that really gave me comfort in that moment was knowing that she was OK,” says Stroll.
Stroll recalls moments and memories of her grandmother, saying, “She would always sit in this big yellow chair in her bedroom and wait for us to come visit her…You could never call enough, you could never see her enough. So I painted the picture that I remembered, of her sitting in the chair… I painted that picture. I wanted to capture the sadness, but also turn it into something that felt healing for me.”
“At least one of us is ok / At least you’re in a better place,” Stroll sings in the chorus of the song.
The Montreal-born singer started her songwriting journey as early as seven. She released her debut single, “Surrender,” in 2012. Years later, she followed it up with several singles such as “Run,” “Pedestal,” and “Homesick,” among others, in 2023.
