The Sound of Music celebrates its 60th anniversary with limited 4k remastered and restored screenings coming exclusively to SM Cinemas from September 20 to 21.

Directed by Robert Wise (West Side Story), the 1965 film is based on the true story of the Von Trapp Family singers, one of the world’s renowned music groups before World War II. It follows Maria, a young woman (Julie Andrews) who becomes a governess to the seven unruly children of the widowed Captain von Trapp (Christopher Plummer). Through music and her charm, Maria brings a new love to their lives.

The film went on to become one of the most successful musicals of all time, winning five Oscars, including Best Picture. It features timeless songs still celebrated today, such as “The Sound of Music,” “My Favorite Things,” “Do-Re-Mi,” and “Climb Ev’ry Mountain.”

It was also adapted from the 1959 stage musical of the same name, which most recently had a Manila run in March 2023 at the Samsung Performing Arts Theater. That production featured Karylle as Baroness Elsa von Schraeder and Markki Stroem as Rolf.
