Caroline Polachek has released a new song, “On The Beach,” which appears on the soundtrack for the PlayStation 5 video game Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, the highly anticipated sequel to 2019’s Death Stranding.
In a press statement, the “So Hot You’re Hurting My Feelings” singer shared the story behind the track, saying, “[It] was actually one of the first songs I ever made with Danny L Harle, but it was too alien and industrial, almost too evil, to work sense on Pang, so I set it aside til the right thing came along.”
Polachek adds that Death Stranding creator and beloved video game designer Hideo Kojima approached her about DS2: “I showed him the sketch of it and he agreed that it was a perfect fit, and so eight years after starting this song, it got reopened, extended, and finished for the perfect setting.”
DS2 takes place eleven months after the events of the first game, this time in a post-apocalyptic Australia plagued by otherworldly creatures. The story follows Sam Porter Bridges and his companions as they journey across the continent to prevent humanity’s extinction by reconnecting isolated survivors and colonies through the wireless “chiral” network.
Additionally, the game features voices from returning stars Norman Reedus, Léa Seydoux, and Troy Baker. They are joined by Elle Fanning, Shioli Kutsuna, Luca Marinelli, Alastair Duncan, Alissa Jung, and Debra Wilson. The game also includes appearances by filmmakers Nicolas Winding Refn, who reprises his role from the previous installment, George Miller, and Fatih Akin.
