Nintendo Announces Live-Action ‘The Legend Of Zelda’ Film For 2027

It’s been a long time coming, but a live-action film adaptation of The Legend of Zelda video game series will finally make its way into theaters in March 2027, co-produced by Sony Pictures and Nintendo.

The release date was officially announced with a brief teaser on Friday, March 28, on Nintendo Today, Nintendo’s new app launched on March 27, marking the first film in a potential franchise. Available on the App Store and Google Play, the Nintendo Today app promises to provide the latest news on Nintendo’s wide library of games, films, and attractions.

Created in 1986 by video game designer Shigeru Miyamoto, the video game series, in which music plays a pivotal role in the overall experience and tone, typically follows Link, a young hero on a quest to rescue Princess Zelda and the land of Hyrule from the evil Ganon (or Ganondorf).

The adaptation was announced in November 2023 with a statement from Miyamoto that reads, “This is Miyamoto. I have been working on the live-action film of ‘The Legend of Zelda’ for many years now with Avi Arad-san, who has produced many mega hit films.”

The announcement also confirmed that Avi Arad, known for producing the Sony Spider-Man films, will be involved, while Wes Ball (The Maze Runner, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes) is currently set to direct the adaptation.

Although all we have is the short teaser, it is reported that Nintendo will be heavily involved in the film’s overall production.
