Pop superstar Billie Eilish has finally released her third studio album, officially titled ‘HIT ME HARD AND SOFT’.
HIT ME HARD AND SOFT was released this May 17, 2024, and will feature no singles until the full record drops worldwide. On her social media, the multiple Grammy and Oscar winner wrote on Instagram stating; “So crazy to be writing this right now,” Eilish writes. “I’m [nervous and excited]. Not doing singles I wanna give it to you all at once. Finneas and I truly could not be more proud of this album and we absolutely can’t wait for you to hear it. Love you.”
According to a press release from Interscope Records, the upcoming album “does exactly as the title suggests” — which aims to hit audiences hard and soft both lyrically and sonically, bending genres and defying trends along the way. HIT ME HARD AND SOFT aims to immerse listeners into a full spectrum of emotions that Eilish and Finneas have concocted with this project, given that the renowned sibling duo have successfully done so over the past five years.
In an interview with Billboard, Eilish mentions how the forthcoming record is her “most eco-friendly” album yet, given that she’s making an effort to utilize the most eco-friendly practices currently feasible, by utilizing 100% recyclable materials for physical copies of the album to change industry-wide practices that have been influenced by charting, retailer and consumer demands. “We are doing everything we can to minimize waste in every aspect of my music,” says the pop star. “[My label has] listened to my concerns and helped me find the best way forward when releasing music and product into the world.”
The 22-year-old musician first clued her fans with a new era through her Instagram, adding all her 112 million followers on the platform to her ‘Close Friends’ stories. The first set of teasers featured short video snippets from a camera submerged under water, which perfectly goes together with the album’s recently revealed cover art that features Eilish sinking below. HIT ME HARD AND SOFT is the latest entry in Eilish’s expansive discography, following her critically acclaimed 2021 album Happier Than Ever, and 2019’s ‘Album of the Year’ Grammy winner When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? Just recently, Eilish already celebrated an impressive first quarter to 2024 with a Golden Globe and Academy Award win for ‘Best Original Song’ for her contribution to 2023’s Barbie soundtrack with the emotive chart-topper “What Was I Made For?”.
